WhatsApp Chatbot Pricing in Malaysia: Setup, Usage & Total Costs

Illustrative scope diagram: Setup, Subscription, Messages + AI, Support + integrations. Ask which costs vary with usage.Open full-size image (new tab)

The cost of a WhatsApp chatbot in Malaysia has two parts: implementation and ongoing operation. A subscription may cover the inbox or chatbot platform while charging separately for channel usage, AI allowances, extra staff, and integration work. Request a total for your own workload before comparing suppliers.

For dated provider price observations, use our AI chatbot comparison in Malaysia. This guide explains how to turn those observations into a budget. It is written by Nodesify, the developer of Lumo, and includes our recommendations for preparing a supplier quote.

Separate the Cost Components

Cost What to Ask the Supplier
One-time implementation What content preparation, channel setup, training, and acceptance work is included?
Platform subscription Is the fee monthly or an annual commitment shown as a monthly equivalent?
WhatsApp connection Is number hosting, onboarding, or another connection fee separate?
Messaging Which current rate card, recipient markets, and message categories apply?
AI usage Are allowances measured in replies, credits, tokens, or another unit?
Images Is image analysis included, and how is it counted?
Staff and contacts What happens when you add users or exceed active-contact limits?
Integrations Who builds, monitors, and repairs connections to your business systems?
Ongoing service What knowledge updates, response hours, and maintenance are included?

These components are a budgeting checklist. Not every supplier charges every item separately. Ask the supplier to identify what is included rather than assuming an extra fee.

Check the Current WhatsApp Rates

Meta’s official Business Platform pricing page describes message pricing by recipient market and category and links to its rate information. Use the applicable effective date, billing arrangement, and exemptions when estimating usage. Your supplier may also have its own fees or markup.

Check the current terms when signing. A blog’s old tariff or a generic “free messages” statement may not describe your proposed account. Ask the supplier to name the rate card in writing and explain which portion of the invoice comes from the channel versus the software.

Contacts, Replies, and Credits Are Different Units

A contact may have several conversations. One conversation may require several AI replies. A credit may cover a variable amount of work depending on the supplier’s model and calculation. An image analysis can be counted separately.

Compare a workload rather than identical-looking allowance numbers. Prepare a representative sample of inquiries and estimate:

  • Customers who will actively message each month.
  • Conversations and AI replies per customer.
  • Images that require analysis.
  • Outbound messages, if that activity is in scope.
  • Staff who need access and numbers that need connecting.
  • Seasonal peaks, retries, and escalation volume.

Ask what happens when a limit is reached. Does service pause, fall back to staff, or continue with paid usage? Can you approve additional spending? That behavior can matter more than a small difference in the base subscription.

Calculate First-Year and Recurring Costs

Use this structure:

First-year cost = setup + subscription commitment + channel charges + additional usage + agreed integration and service work.

Ongoing monthly cost = recurring subscription + channel charges + additional usage + recurring service work.

For an illustrative budget, suppose implementation costs RM600, software costs RM300 per month, and a channel connection costs RM50 per month. Setup plus twelve months of those fixed charges is RM4,800. Messaging, AI overages, taxes, and additional work remain separate. These figures are invented to explain the arithmetic. They are not Lumo prices, provider rates, or a market average.

For an annual plan, use the actual annual charge. Do not assume the supplier accepts twelve separate monthly payments because its page displays a monthly equivalent. If a quote uses USD, include your payment provider’s actual conversion and transaction charges instead of silently comparing USD with MYR.

What Does Lumo Include?

Lumo’s current product page is the source for its setup fee, monthly plans, allowances, and support terms. We keep commercial numbers there so this guide does not present an outdated duplicate as a current offer.

Lumo’s standard offer covers approved business answers, website chat, and eligible WhatsApp channels within the agreed package. Website and WhatsApp share allowances. Staff retains responsibility for final prices, stock, payments, orders, and refunds. Transaction automation, broadcasts, and additional connected workflows are outside standard scope.

Pilot inquiries are open. Paid activation follows acceptance and completed delivery and billing checks. Starter is a launch price whose duration and renewal terms need confirmation. Ask for the terms applying to your pilot, including the support allowance, extra-work approval, and usage behavior.

Send the Same Quote Request to Every Supplier

A comparable request can be short:

We need approved customer answers for one Malaysian retail brand. Please quote the agreed website and WhatsApp channels, expected monthly active customers, AI replies, image volume, and staff access. Separate setup, subscription commitment, channel usage, AI overages, support, and integration costs. State what happens when limits are reached and who owns updates and staff handover.

Replace the volumes with your own estimates. Attach a small approved catalog, FAQs, and acceptance scenarios. Include a normal question, a missing answer, a discount request, and a case requiring staff review.

Request written answers on renewal, cancellation, data export, retention, number access, and the steps needed to move to another supplier. The ability to leave with your business records is part of procurement, even when the initial price is attractive.

Measure Cost Per Confirmed Outcome

A high reply count does not establish business value. Define a resolved inquiry, then track how many are resolved without staff intervention and how many require correction. Add the time your staff spends maintaining content and taking over conversations.

Cost per confirmed resolution = agreed operating costs ÷ confirmed resolved inquiries.

Keep this separate from sales attribution. A chatbot may answer a delivery question without causing a purchase. Measure qualified inquiries or completed sales only when the relevant outcome is actually confirmed.

Translate workload into a bill you can reconcile

For a synthetic normal month, 400 active contacts × two conversations × three AI replies gives 2,400 replies. Assume 80 images and 120 conversations handed to staff. A peak case of 800 contacts × three conversations × four replies gives 9,600 replies, plus an independently estimated 240 images and 360 staff handovers. These editable assumptions are not typical usage or measured Lumo results. Image-related AI replies must be included in the reply count where applicable, rather than treated as free extra answers.

Use the workload and invoice worksheet. Reconcile fixed subscription commitment, channel/provider usage, reply/image overage, approved extra work, tax/conversion and renewal terms against the same billing period. Link each variable amount to usage evidence and permission. Leave unclear lines unresolved instead of accepting the invoice total as its own explanation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens above Lumo’s allowance?

Overages are off by default. They require prepaid cash, separate reply/image permission and a period spending cap; there is no automatic top-up. Confirm the actual limit behaviour and staff fallback during acceptance, and use the current product terms for rates.

Do website and WhatsApp share usage, and does another number add capacity?

The merchant’s website and WhatsApp share allowances. Eligible number limits and bot limits are separate; another number does not automatically expand the setup labour or usage allowance. Confirm package eligibility, connection work and recurring charges before adding a number.

Is the Cheapest Subscription the Cheapest Chatbot?

Not necessarily. A basic tool may exclude AI answering, setup, support, or the integrations your business requires. Compare the same workload and responsibilities.

Are WhatsApp Charges Included in Every Chatbot Plan?

No. Confirm the supplier’s package and current channel billing terms. Ask for a separate estimate where those charges are outside the subscription.

Can I Get a Fixed Quote Before Launch?

You can request a scoped implementation quote and recurring fee schedule. Usage-dependent costs need stated assumptions and spending controls. Clarify what is fixed and what changes with volume.
